A delegation of 35 representatives from the YNAO visited the Finnish Lapland and northern Norway from May 15-22, 2007. The visit was initiated and funded by the companies Yamaltransstroi and Nefteresursy and organised by the anthropology and Russian north section of the Arctic Centre as a research outreach activity.
The main goal of the visit for the guests was to get first hand information about the research done by the Arctic Centre, in particular in the sphere of industry impact assessment and reindeer herding, as well as getting acquainted with the system of coexistence between industry and reindeer herding in Finnish Lapland and northern Norway.
The delegates represented the administration of YNAO, the municipal parliaments and councils of the city of Labytnangi and Yamal Peninsula, reindeer herding cooperatives, and the industrial companies Yamaltransstroi and Nefteresursy. The visit consisted of a densely organised series of meetings with the principal institutions in research, politics and industry in Lapland. This visit was organised jointly by the company Yamaltransstroi and the Anthropology and Russian Northern Studies section at the Arctic Centre. The programme is part of the outreach activities of the Arctic Centre project ENSINOR .
