Julkaisu on syyskuussa 2008 järjestetyn kaivosoikeus-seminaarin tulos. Seminaari oli osa Arktisen keskuksen Pohjoisen ympäristö- ja vähemmistöoikeuden instituutin kaivosoikeustyöryhmän Kaivoslain uudistaminen Lapin näkökulmasta  -tutkimusprojektia, jota rahoittaa Suomen Kulttuurirahaston Lapin maakuntarahasto.

Julkaisun nimi on “Reforming Mining Law in a Changing World, with Special Reference to Finland” ja se ilmestyy Arktisen keskuksen julkaisusarjassa (numero. 34).

Julkaisun sisältö:

Mining is an increasingly global business: the minerals markets and companies in the industry operate on a worldwide scale. This development has had a distinct impact on how the activity is regulated, with companies applying their own codes of conduct and inter-governmental organisations adopting mining standards. Any national reform of mining regulation needs to take into account not only these increasingly international standards, but – perhaps more importantly – the very rapid change that has taken place in the market place. This publication examines global and regional developments in mining regulation with a special emphasis on Finland, a pertinent case given that the country is in the process of replacing its old 1965 Mining Act. Also of particular interest are northern and Arctic developments, taken up in contributions that examine mining law as it affects indigenous peoples and analyse trends in the law in Canadian Arctic regions.
