The national graduate school for environmental social studies in Finland (YHTYMÄ) will organize its annual seminar in Rovaniemi, Finland 1-2.4.2009.

The topic of the YHTYMÄ seminar is ’Politics and practices of consumerism’. The question of consumerism is essential in global environmental politics and governance: how much and how we consume natural resources? The question concerns also individuals and their choices and lifestyles, but also is related to global political and economic structures. The key note speakers of the seminar are professor Johanna Moisander (Helsinki School of Economics) and professor Ronnie Lipschutz (University of California, Santa Cruz). The program includes also sessions for students to present their papers and a meeting for the members of YHTYMÄ modules.  In addition, there will an introduction to the Arctic Centre, University of Lapland and its Science Centre exhibition as well as a joint meeting with the ARKTIS graduate school.
