Luennon kuvaus:
The worldwide impact of global climate change is now part of humanity’s common sense though some people tend to refute it. Human civilizations based on capitalist exploitation of resources in the name of development for several centuries have caused climate change that has colossal impact on environment. Bangladesh is one of the most vulnerable countries to climate change. The country is most at risk from its projected impacts as natural disasters such as cyclones, tornadoes and floods have become more severe and frequent. More importantly, the sea level rise is a reality in the world with increasing trend of global warming. Often called as “ground zero for climate change,” Bangladesh ranked sixth on the 2018 Global Climate Risk Index. The natural setting of Bangladesh as a low-lying deltaic zone is particularly vulnerable to global climate change. It causes an array of non-traditional threats as well as developmental challenges. How is Bangladesh facing this new vulnerability?
The instrument of diplomacy is particularly significant in view of transnational and global character of climate change problem and its solution. Global climate negotiations demand new diplomacy from a country like Bangladesh. The presentation analyses the efficacy of the traditional diplomacy of Bangladesh and will focus on identifying new elements to pursue its climate diplomacy in order to successfully address the vulnerability emanating from global climate change.
