Lapin yliopiston Arktinen keskus ja Taiteiden tiedekunta järjestävät kansainvälisen seminaarin ”Shamanism, Symbolism and Culture. Role and function of art in the transmission of culture and cultural practices” Rovaniemellä 27.-28.11.2014. Seminaari on englanninkielinen ja maksuton.

 

The main themes in the seminar examine the important role art plays in ceremony, ritual, healing, trance, and the transmission of culture in indigenous societies. The main aims of the event focus on examining the relationship between shamanic art, its importance and continuity within both historical as well as contemporary societies, and the function of symbolism within this context.

 

The event will be held in the Arktikum House (Pohjoisranta 4).
