The Northern Institute for Environmental Law (NIEM) will organize a half-day long seminar entitled “Infrastructure Development and Sustainable Use of the Arctic Ocean”. The open seminar takes place in Borealis meeting room in Arktikum, Rovaniemi on 10 February 2020 at 10–12.30.
The seminar consists of four interesting speeches given by scholars from both Japan (Hokkaido University) and Finland (University of Lapland).
The event is open for all interested in the topic. However, NIEM particularly encourage advanced level undergraduate, graduate, post-graduate students and exchange students of the University of Lapland to join the event.
Students attending the event will be able to receive 1 ECTS credit. The requirements are active participation and submission of a 5-page lecture dairy. The deadline for submission of the lecture dairy is 29 February 2020, which will have to be submitted to Research Prof. Kamrul Hossain via email: khossain(at)ulapland.fi.

The seminar is a part of the Finnish-Japanese Arctic Studies Program – a project funded by the Finnish National Agency for Education (CIMO) and supported by the UArctic Thematic Network on Arctic Law. This project aims at promoting multidisciplinary understanding and cooperation between Finland and Japan in terms of promoting education and teaching on the Arctic issues.
