Joint Interdisciplinary Maritime Safety Workshop

The Disaster Law and Law of the Sea Interest Groups of the American Society of International Law (ASIL) and the Arctic Centre (AC) at the University of Lapland are hosting a Joint Interdisciplinary Maritime Safety Workshop on 2 March 2018 at 15-18 at the Arctic Centre, Rovaniemi.

The idea is to provide a broad look at different aspects of maritime safety and to give participants food for thought beyond their respective fields of work.

Topics can include for example:
- Maritime Safety in the Arctic
- Preventing large scale Disasters at Sea
- Risk Awareness, Preparation and Seafarer Training
- Technical Solutions and International Law
- Using International Law to enhance Maritime Safety
- Environmental aspects of Maritime Safety
- Learning from past incidents.

Other presentations are welcome as well. The presentations are about 35 to 30 minutes each, followed by a few minutes for questions.

Potential speakers are asked to submit an abstract of no more than 300 words no later than 12 February 2018 by email to stefan.kirchner(at)ulapland.fi. It is planned to enable presentations from abroad, e.g. by Skype. In case you want to give your presentation without being present in Rovaniemi, please inform the organizers when submitting your abstract.
