I am an anthropologist, and my research interests focus on the northern nature, animals and natural phenomenon in a way or on other, I have worked on issues such as floods and reindeer husbandry in the context of global change. It has been a great privilege to have an opportunity to study arctic animals, plants and phenomenon in detail and it has widened up my perspectives to admire and question the northern life from the everyday context.    

Funding news: Kone Foundation grants to NPE researchers

The recipients of the Kone Foundation researcher grants for the year 2015 were announced yesterday. This year two NPE team members, Hannah Strauss-Mazzullo and Adrian Braun, were among the 572 successful applicants who were granted funding by Kone.   

Regional studies still kicking strong

Researcher of the month: Heidi Sinevaara-Niskanen

Heidi Sinevaara-Niskanen is a researcher in the Unit for Gender Studies at the University of Lapland and a member of the NPE research group of the Arctic Centre. Her research focuses on sustainable development, its social dimension in particular, and questions of knowledge and participation in Arctic politics.
