Vesa Väätänen works in the project A Planetary Approach to Global Arctic politics. In his research, Vesa focuses on the relation between the global and the Arctic from a post-anthropocentric perspective by examining the social and material aspects of policy implementation practices, their geographies, and how they produce planetary (in)justice. Vesa holds a PhD in geography, which he received in 2020 at the University of Oulu. In his doctoral thesis, entitled “Political geographies of the ‘changing’ Arctic: perspectives on the interface between politics and the region as a process”, Vesa focused on the construction of geographical knowledge on the Arctic region and its change, and how this knowledge becomes incorporated into Arctic politics.
