20.11.2008 16:00
Researchers Emilie Beaudon and Venkata Gandikota lecture on ice and climate research on Vestfonna glacier in Svalbard on Tuesday the 25th of November at 18.00 in Arktikum Aurora hall.

Researchers Emilie Beaudon (Arctic Centre) and Venkata Gandikota (Arktis graduate school, Arctic Centre) tell about the Svalbard expeditions, of which the most recent ones are related to the International Polar Year held in 2007–2009. In addition, they will tell how scientists have to face different situations on remote regions and have to plan and improvise as the situation demands.

Beaudon and Gandikota make their PhD’s on ice and climate research. Their research includes field research on Vestfonna glacier in Svalbard.

The lecture is part of the lecture series Arctic Expeditions Today which is held this autumn and devoted to the International Polar Year. Arktis graduate school is a multidisciplinary graduate school funded by the Finnish Ministry of Education and coordinated by the University of Lapland’s Arctic Centre. The graduate school educates experts on Arctic issues. The theme of the school includes the social and environmental impacts of modernization and global change in the Arctic.

The lecture "Ice and climate research on Vestfonna: Preparation, implementation and stumbling blocks" by researchers Emilie Beaudon and Venkata Gandikota takes place on Tuesday the 25th of November at 18.00 in Arktikum Aurora hall (address: Pohjoisranta 4, Rovaniemi).
