Markku Heikkilä is the new Head of Science Communications

Markku Heikkilä has been selected for the position of the Head of Science Communications of the Arctic Centre. He will start at the Arctic Centre in the beginning of February.

The Head of Science Communications is e.g. in charge of communicating arctic issues to the public and authorities, he is part of the management group and international arctic science communications cooperation as well as he’s duty is to take part on the preparations of the EU’s Arctic Information Centre plan.

Markku Heikkilä has long experience in international arctic and northern issues as well as communication. He has been working in Kaleva newspaper for more than 20 years, last nine years as the editorial journalist. He has published three books about arctic, northern dimension and Laatokka (in Karelia) district history. He also writes to AnalysNord internet journal. He has received state award for communicating northern issues in 1997. He has been founding Barents Press network for journalists in the beginning of 1990’s. He will continue as columnist in Kaleva also in the future.
