Rovaniemi Arctic Spirit Conference has been admitted for the official side event of Finland’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union. The Presidency will start on 1st July 2019 and it lasts to the end of the year.

Almost all Presidency events, including all ministerial meetings, will take place in Helsinki. Rovaniemi Arctic Spirit Conference is the only Presidency side event in Lapland and one of the few events outside Helsinki.

– We see this as a recognition for Rovaniemi Arctic Spirit Conference´s position as the leading international Arctic conference in Finland, says Markku Heikkilä, the Head of Science Communications at the Arctic Centre, University of Lapland. He is leading the Conference preparations.

The Rovaniemi Conference takes place in Rovaniemi on 12–13 November 2019 and the theme of the conference is Climate Change and the Future Generations. EU`s Northern policy is discussed at a high level event in Helsinki at the end of November, organized by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs.
