Arctic Centre researcher Mats Granskog participates the Australian expedition sailing at the Antarctic waters.

The Sea Ice Physics and Ecosystem eXperiment (SIPEX)  is a major Australian International Polar Year (IPY) project. It aims to investetigate relationships between the physical sea ice environment and the structure of Southern Ocean ecosystems.  

The expedition, sailing aboard research vessel Aurora Australis, set off from Hobbart, Tasmania, on 5th of September. The ship will cruise the waters surrounding Antarctica until late October.
