Coming: Mapped Beauty
28.1.2014 14:04
What did the Great North look like from the southern point of view hundreds of years ago? From whose point of view history is written? Is the land really found only when a white man discovers it?
Arctic Centre’s collection of beautiful old maps from 16th to 19th century is composed of sea charts, maps and drawings of Arctic Region. The treasures of this valuable collection are on general display for the first time in twenty years. They reveal how the lines of the northern world were drawn.
Is it true that there used to be sea monsters squirming in the Arctic Ocean? Or what killed over two million sailors in their long expeditions? You can find the answers to these questions in our forthcoming science centre exhibition.
Mapped Beauty from 6th June 2014 to 12th April 2015 in the Arktikum Science Centre, Rovaniemi Finland.
