A memorandum of understanding has been signed between the Arctic Centre of the University of Lapland and the Yamal-Nenets museum and exhibition complex in Salekhard, Yamal-Nenets autonomous region in Western Siberia. The memorandum opens doors for new cooperation possibilities in the future. It was signed in September 27th by director of the Arctic Centre professor Paula Kankaanpää and director of the museum Sergey Grishin during a visit to Salekhard by a delegation from Arctic Centre.
Arctic Centre researchers have operated in Yamal Peninsula already during two decades. At the moment research groups of Bruce Forbes and Florian Stammler are active in the region. In the future cooperation is possible in for instance exhibition exchange.
