STUK-MMBI Workshop on Research at the Arctic Seas

Workshop in the Arktikum Rovaniemi, 29.4.2008, will concentrate on radioactive studies in the Arctic.

As a part of Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority-STUK International Polar Year 2007-2009 research STUK and Murmansk Marine Biology Institute (MMBI) will organise a joint workshop. The workshop is open to public and anyone interested in the subject and it will consist of the following talks:

A.-P. Leppänen (STUK): Expedition to the Barents Sea 2007; images and experiences

D. Solatie (STUK): Analysis and preliminary results of sediment samples from Kola section

T.K. Ikäheimonen (STUK): Radioecological studies in the Baltic Sea

J. Paatero (IL): Studies of the Finnish Meteorological Institute at Polar Region

D. Moiseev (MMBI): Oceanographic conditions in the area of the August-September 2007 radioecological studies in the Barents Sea

N.N. (MMBI): Artificial radionuclides and their role in the contamination of the Arctic marine ecosystems

N.N. (MMBI): Monitoring of radioactive contamination in the Kola Bay and along the Stockman gas pipeline route.

The workshop will be opened by the Research Director of Research and Environmental Surveilance of Radiation and Nuclear Safety-STUK  Sisko Salomaa.
