4.2.2011 15:14
The 21st Barets Library Conference Libraries @ Barents – Communicative and active! will be organized in Rovaniemi in 24.-26.8.2011. Arctic Centre Library is one of the organizers together with the whole Lapland University Consortium Library, Regional Library of Lapland and the Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment for Lapland.

The main theme of the conference is active communication and interaction of libraries with each other, with the society around the libraries, with business, with the library patrons.

The roles of different actors in the society are changing due to technical development and the fast development of the informal information society. So, the role of libraries is changing but the role of patrons is changing as well. The libraries have to react to all the changes and create new ways and means of communication and new kinds of interplay.

There are also quite a lot of plans and projects going on in the Barents area aiming at economic, cultural and social development. There are strong political, economic and environmental interests in the area. The libraries might have various tasks and roles in the projects.

The proposals for paper or poster presentations or panel discussions should be submitted on 29 April, 2011 at the latest.
