Guest Lecture: Russian Indigenous Peoples of the North as Political Actors

University of Lapland’s Arctic Centre hosts a quest lecture by senior researcher Tamara Semenova from Research Institute for Cultural and Natural Heritage, Moscow, Russia on 8th of December, 2008, at 10 am.

The title of the presentation is Russian Indigenous Peoples of the North as Political Actors.

The lecture takes place in Aurora room in the Arktikum house (address: Pohjoisranta 4, Rovaniemi, 1st floor) on 8th of December, 2008, at 10 am. The lecture is open to anyone interested, and it is the first part of the Arctic Centre guest lecture series Environmental politics in the Arctic.

Tamara Semenova is senior researcher at the Institute of Cultural and Natural Heritage under Russian Academy of Sciences and Ministry of Culture. She is a PhD student in political science, majoring in international relations at the University of Helsinki. A selection of Semenova’s research activities include participation as a senior researcher in the British-Russian project on "Cultural landscape as a heritage feature: comparative analysis" funded by the British Academy of Sciences and in an international research project on "Indigenous peoples as international actors" funded by the Finnish Academy of Sciences. She is a participant in the Council of Europe formal meetings in Russia and CIS on spatial development and heritage conservation, as well as serves as a member of Global Environmental Facility (GEF) in Russia in the project "Persistent Toxic Substances, Food Safety and Indigenous Peoples of the North in Russia", and serves as an expert in the Review Committee of the Environmental Impact Assessment (Expertiza) of the State Committee of the Environmental Protection (Goskomekologia).
