
Funding for the Sami research

The Arctic Indigenous and Sami Peoples Research Office at the Arctic Centre launched two new research projects.
"Prerequisites of the Sami reindeer herding: meaning of traditional knowledge" investigates the changes regarding the activity conditions and their impact on reindeer herding in relation to the prospects of the future. The goal is also to find out, what is the role of Traditional ecological knowledge (TEK) in today’s herding and among the young people, and how this knowledge is being transferred from one generation to another.

The another project, "Biological Diversity and Sami people" aims to investigate wahat kind of biodiversity-related knowledge Sami people in Finland have and what measures are needed to protect and make use og this knowledge and how to share the benefits of that knowledge.
