Seminar “Antarctica today – shared challenges for science and environmental protection in the final frontier” was held on May 29, 2023 as a side event of the annual Antarctic Treaty Consultative Meeting hosted by Finland.
The public seminar featured many prominent speakers on major environmental challenges in Antarctica, including marine conservation; Antarctic policy perspectives from the point of view of the foreign affairs community; Antarctic science challenges including climate change; and academic views on challenges the Treaty System has faced in the past 25 years.
The first half of the program was in English, and the second half in Finnish.

Seminar was a side event of the annual Antarctic Treaty Consultative Meeting, this year hosted by the Government of Finland.
Event was organized by the Polar Institute of the Wilson Center together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland, the Arctic Centre of the University of Lapland, the University of Helsinki and the Polar Cooperation Research Centre of Kobe University.
