21.12.2022 13:45

The report on the state of Arctic cooperation after Russia’s war of aggression, commissioned by the Government, is now available in English. The Finnish language version was published in October.

The report examines the effects of the war on international cooperation in the Arctic region and on implementing Finland’s strategy for Arctic policy. According to the results of the study, the indirect effects of the Russian invasion on the Arctic and on Finland’s role in the Arctic are significant. As the crisis continues, this will also affect the structures of Arctic cooperation.

Gaia Consulting Oy and the Finnish Institute of International Affairs also participated in the study led by the Arctic Centre at the University of Lapland. The scientific director of the study was Research Professor Timo Koivurova, and Head of Science Communications Markku Heikkilä coordinated the work.

– We have now translated the entire report of over eighty pages into English because of the exceptional international interest in it. No other country has yet published such a comprehensive analysis of the new situation in Arctic cooperation, says Heikkilä.

The report in English is available on the website of the Prime Minister’s Office http://urn.fi/URN:NBN:fi-fe2022122173093
