The globalization and expansion of market economy contribute to influence local or localized aspects relating to food security. The Barents region faces numerous challenges in terms of increased human activities, in particular increased mining and similar types of activities, having potential to impact the environment of the region, and ultimately affecting the safety and security of food and traditional food supply chain.

The seminar is organized by the Northern Institute for Environmental and Minority Law of the Arctic Centre in cooperation with the HuSArctic research project which object is to address the human challenges of the Arctic population from a different angle, namely from the human security perspective as it is conceptualized today.
