University of the Arctic (UArctic) has enhanced Arctic research and collaboration among researchers and universities for two decades. Anniversary seminar is organized in Rovaniemi Arktikum on September 6th .
The Arctic
Centre at the University of Lapland is a fitting location to organize the Anniversary
Seminar since the first ever UArctic meeting was also organized in Rovaniemi in
2001.
UArctic is
an important strategic partner to University of Lapland and to the Arctic Centre.
Researchers of the Arctic Centre are active members in many of its thematic
networks and some of them are led by the Arctic Centre such as Thematic Network
on Arctic Extractive Industries and newly established Thematic Network on
Critical Arctic Studies.
– The
UArctic provides an excellent opportunity to network with scholars in both
one’s own and other related disciplines, which is the key to refreshing
existing knowledge and creating new knowledge, says director of the Arctic
Centre Johanna Ikävalko.
–
Throughout the past two decades the UArctic has proven its vital role in
offering a pan-arctic visibility and opportunities for collaboration about
important topics in Arctic studies, Ikävalko continues.
The program
of the Anniversary Seminar consists of a brief look into history of the UArctic,
messages from Arctic and non-Arctic governments and short introductions to the UArctic
Thematic Networks.
The Arctic
Centre congratulates UArctic on its 20th anniversary!
