Environmental Impact Assessments

The nature reporting and EIA services at the Arctic Centre provide expertise in Arctic nature and environment for businesses and organizations. The experts can consult on and carry out nature reports, especially on birds and reindeer herding, on environmental impact assessment, on project preparation and on other environmental matters.

The Arctic Centre is an expert on the national EIA processes and participatory planning as well as in the practical research for the preparation of the necessary EIA documents and on reporting them. The experts also provide policy impact assessment services.

Contact: Dr. Jukka Jokimäki

The experts at the Arctic Centre have drafted nature reports and conducted environmental impact assessments for water construction projects, forestry, construction projects of landfill sites, as well as flood protection projects. EIA services have been provided also for urbanization, tourism and mining projects. The services also include planning and building nature trails and designing signposts, as well as teaching and the preparation of educational materials.

The Centre has excellent contacts with research institutes specializing in Arctic themes, as well as with local residents and the representative bodies of indigenous peoples.
