Welcome to the CAVIAR workshop!
The Arctic Centre organises a workshop on community vulnerability and adaptation in Arctic regions, on 25. - 26. November 2009 in Arktikum house, Rovaniemi.
The aim of the workshop is to present and discuss case studies from different parts of the Arctic looking at adaptation to impacts of climate change. In the first of the day of the workshop the focus will be on vulnerability, adaptive capacity and adaptive strategies of local communities. The workshop program will include presentations from Norway, Sweden, Finland, Russia and Canada. This pan-arctic research project is led by Grete Hovelrsud (CICERO, Norway) and by Barry Smit (University of Guelph, Canada).
The second day of the workshop will focus on Finnish CAVIAR study focusing on agency in climate change adaptation. The multidisciplinary project has brought together anthropologists and political scientists to discuss the multilevel dynamics of adaptation. The workshop will be the final event to present the results of a three-year research project funded by the Finnish Academy. The leader of the project is Monica Tennberg from the Arctic Centre, University of Lapland.
The participation to the workshop is free. The lunches are at own cost. Registration to workshop by email to Monica Tennberg (monica.tennberg@ulapland.fi) by 16.11.
