The new research project – Enablement besides Constraints: Addressing a Cyber Multidisciplinary Framework for the Promotion of Human Security in the European High North (ECoHuCy) – held its kick-off meeting in Stockholm on the 27th of February 2017.
The meeting was hosted by the Secretariat of the Council of the Baltic Sea States (CBSS) and organized by UiT – the Arctic University of Norway. Objective of the meeting was to plan the implementation of research and other activities to be carried out within the project’s three-year timeframe.
The meeting started with an opening speech delivered by Prof. Christer Pursiainen (UiT – the Arctic University of Norway). Mr. Jacek Paszkowski (CBSS) gave a presentation on the activities of the Council of the Baltic Sea States. Project leader Prof. Kamrul Hossain (Arctic Centre) presented an overview of the ECoHuCy-project followed by researcher Mirva Salminen’s (Arctic Centre) address on the details of the planning of project implementation, while all participants actively contributed to discussions on a number of relevant issues. Other participants included Professors Mike Sheehan (Swansea University) and Sandra Cassotta (ISDP, Stockholm), and Ms. Nina Jernberg (CBSS). The ECoHuCy-project is hosted by the Northern Institute for Environmental and Minority Law (NIEM) at the Arctic Centre of the University of Lapland. It is funded by NordForsk along with the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) of the United Kingdom.
