Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA)

The research at the Centre explores the impact of peoples’ activity on the Arctic region, especially concerning the regions of Lapland and Northwest Russia.

The Centre has expertise in the national EIA process and participatory planning including topics like the practical research for the preparation and reporting of the necessary EIA documents, international environmental law, training related to conducting an EIA and the operations of the Arctic and Barents Councils.

The Centre has good connections with establishments specialized in the Arctic regions as well as with local residents and the representative bodies of indigenous peoples.

Environmental Impact Assessment is an assessment of the likely positive and/or negative influence a project may have on the environment. The purpose of the assessment is to ensure that decision-makers consider environmental impacts before deciding whether to proceed with new projects.
