|The research at the Centre explores the impact of peoples’ activity
on the Arctic region, especially concerning the regions of Lapland and
The Centre has expertise in the national EIA process and
participatory planning including topics like the practical research for
the preparation and reporting of the necessary EIA
documents, international environmental law, training related to
conducting an EIA and the operations of the Arctic and Barents Councils.
The Centre has good connections with establishments specialized in
the Arctic regions as well as with local residents and the
representative bodies of indigenous peoples.
Environmental Impact Assessment is an assessment of the likely positive and/or negative influence
a project may have on the environment. The purpose of the assessment is
to ensure that decision-makers consider environmental impacts before
deciding whether to proceed with new projects.
