Natural Europe

Natural Europe is a 3-year project funded by the CIP PSP Programme that started in October 2010. It focuses on museum education and more specifically on Natural History Museums (NHMs). In the same context of NHMs it will also deploy innovative web-based tools to help manage, connect and to better utilize the digitalized collection found in the different NHMs.

The project has 14 European partners and the project is lead by the Greek Research and Technology Network S.A (GRNET).

Digital Collections

Natural Europe aims primarily, at making digital collections existing in Natural History Museums (NHMs), available online through Europeana (www.europeana.eu). 16.000 digital resources related to Natural History will be published using the tools of the project.

Learning Pathways

Natural Europe will create meaningful educational experiences within the museums through learning pathways. Pathways will be connected with school curriculum and will include digital content coming from museums and/or Europeana. See the educational pathways for the Arkikum.

Exhibitions

Museum exhibitions will be made richer through the use of interactive installations that Natural Europe will deploy. Content will be displayed in different ways, to allow for its full exploitation on the museum floor.

Technology

Natural Europe is deploying tools that will help in managing digital collections, developing pathways and displaying both of them virtually on the museum websites and physically on the exhibitions.
