TRANSFORM: Transatlantic Policy Options for Supporting Adaptations in the Marine Arctic

Leader: Dr. Timo Koivurova
Northern Institute for Environmental and Minority Law, Arctic Centre

Start of the project: 1.1.2008
End of the project: 30.6.2009

The project studies the legal and political structure related to Arctic marine environment, which is heavily impacted by the global climate change. The research project starts with first examining this politico-legal landscape, then compares the arctic marine policies of the United States and the European Union. All this information and knowledge is then disseminated, but most importantly it serves as base for organising discussions between various stakeholders, those who are dependent one way or the other on changing arctic marine environment in the US and EU respectively. The project closes with recommendations to the EU-US summit to be organised in 2010.
