Aurora Night: How to catch the best photos of the Northern lights?

On September 29, 2017 Arktikum Science Centre opens its doors and invites the public to experience a night full of Aurora Borealis and to learn more about phenomenon.

The Northern lights, also known as Aurora Borealis, are a spectacular natural phenomenon often seen dancing around in fantastic colors across the northern Arctic sky.

On September 29, 2017 Arktikum Science Centre opens its doors and invites the public to experience a night full of Aurora Borealis and to learn more about phenomenon. Northern lights researchers will give insight into their daily work and the fascinating world of Aurora Borealis and the participant will also learn how to take photos of Northern lights.


The event is free of charge. For registration to the event, please see www.arktikum.fi/ilmoittaudu or call. +358 16 322 3260. There is a maximum of 150 persons/session.

• 18.00–18.30 Yleisöluento: Kuinka ennakoida revontulet?
Revontuliasiantuntija perehdyttää yleisön revontulien maailmaan kertoen muun muassa miten tätä hienoa luonnonilmiötä voi ennakoida ja miten löytää parhaat paikat revontulien näkemiseen.
• 18.30–19.00 Yleisöluento: Miten valokuvata revontulet?
Kokenut valokuvaaja opastaa yleisön revontulien kuvaukseen. Mitä asioita tulisi huomioida niin sään kuin varustuksenkin suhteen kun halutaan saada onnistunut kuva?
• 19.00–19.30 Arktikumin tiedekeskuksen avoimet ovet
Mahdollisuus vierailla Arktikumin tiedekeskuksessa ja perehtyä lisää revontulien maailmaan.
• 19.30–19.45 Vuoden Revontulikuva 2017 -kilpailun voittajan julkistaminen

Aurora scientist introduces the basics of Northern Lights and presents how to predict Northern Lights and where to find the best locations for viewing.
• 20.30–21.00 Presentation: How to photograph the Northern Lights?
Professional photographer will demonstrate and explain the basics on how to take a good Northern Light photo and explain the required condition and equipment.
• 21.00–21.30 Open doors to the Arktikum Science Centre
Possibility to visit Arktikum Science Centre to learn about the facts and legends of Northern lights.
