Focus of research:
Glaciologist-Paleoclimatologist. Recent work on ground penetrating radar studies of polythermal glaciers in Svalbard and their response to climate warming., examining the climate of the last 1000 years in ice cores. Developing new advanced statistical methods for time series analysis, with the aim of a mechanistic understanding of the climate system. Chemical analysis and modeling ancient ice from blue Ice Areas in Antarctica for paleoclimate research. Analysis and modeling of sea level records.

Scientific coordinator of the IPY Kinnvika project, and in charge of the ice core drilling on Vestfonna and Integrated modeling studies projects. Cooperation mainly with Polish academy of Sciences and University of Uppsala .  Ice core research with Dutch, Norwegian, Swedish, French and British partners. Early work on the development of a theoretical basis for electrical conduction in ice as function of chemical impurities, followed by radar studies of Svalbard polythermal glaciers.
